Have you ever heard a good news/bad news story? Here’s one:
Doctor: “I have some bad news and some very bad news.”
Patient: “Well, might as well give me the bad news first.”
Doctor: “The lab called with your test results. They said you have 24 hours to live.”
Patient: “24 Hours! That’s terrible! What could be worse? What’s the very bad news?”
Doctor: “I’ve been trying to reach you since yesterday.”
Do you want the good news or the bad news? The good news God’s grace is UNSTOPPABLE. The bad news God’s wrath is UNSTOPPABLE as well.
Colossians 3:1-6 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. (NIV)
UNSTOPPABLE wrath? Not a very encouraging way to prep for an event, promote a weekend, or pump up a team. This passage however reminds me of the eternal significance of what we do. This is serious business. This is a real life. This is a real eternity. What we do here in these moments matter and according to the Apostle Paul, how we live matters. So let’s make our worshipping, living, and serving this weekend echo into eternity. Ready to make some noise?
Prayer: Pray for eternal decisions to be made this weekend!
Worship: This Is Amazing Grace – Phil Wickham
