STORY and STORYtellers

By July 20, 2018 No Comments

Newfoundlanders are known for being great STORYtellers. Our tourism website states: “Newfoundland and Labrador has a reputation for being friendly. Warm and welcoming, fun-loving and funny to the core, the people here are also known for their natural creativity, unique language, and knack for STORYtelling.”  I don’t consider myself much of a STORYteller but I do know some people who have that captivating ability to spin a great yarn.  Who doesn’t love a good story? STORIES are a part of heritage. STORIES weave their way into the very fabric of our lives. STORIES have power to move us to tears or move us to action. STORIES have the power to depress us or inspire us. STORIES can be told to make a point or to motivate us with purpose. STORIES are powerful. STORIES are popular. In fact, people love STORIES so much they will pay good money every week to line up at Cineplex, pick up a novel at Chapters, or binge on Netflix, all in hopes to catch a good STORYline.  I believe we are wired for STORIES. I also believe we are written into a STORY. God has written every single one of us into His grand narrative. That narrative precedes the beginning of time and will extend past the very end of our days. It is narrative of creation, redemption, and re-creation and we are characters in this divine drama and amazing love STORY. The author paid an incredible price to ensure that our STORIES would have significance and meaning.  Even when the current chapter of our lives seems more like a tragedy than a destiny we can rest assured that the Father has not dropped His stylus but is writing a novel that will be for our good and for His glory. But that’s not all! Now we have the opportunity to co-author a STORY of hope, purpose, and eternity for this generation. Pick up THE BOOK and start reading. Pick up your phone and post an Instagram STORY of His faithfulness.  Pick up a pen and start writing. There may be a Pulitzer, Giller, Cuffer, or Philippians 3:14 prize in your future!

P.S. This ‘STORY’ word is so potent we designed a whole event around it. Join us this October in Corner Brook and help us write a new chapter in our YC novel. Find all the deets at our new website: www.ycnl.ca

And for a sequel…

Check out this video and meditate on these lyrics:

“A Father’s heart that’s for me, a never-ending STORY of love that’s always chasing me. His kindness overwhelming, and hope for me unending, He’s never given up on me.”
