On March 8, Malaysian Flight 370 vanished during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. Gone. Not a trace. Search suspended. But today, in the news, the search was rekindled. An official on the investigation team said these poignant & potent words: “We are hopeful…” Yet to date there have been no signs of HOPE.
Romans 4:18 transports us back in time to a significant moment in the nation of Israel and in the life of God’s servant Abraham:
“Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!””
Hope is not always logical, sensible, or rational. But hope is always POWERFUL! For months we have be reciting, promoting, and developing this theme of HOPE. Now we are on the verge of serving it up in a tangible way through a full weekend, deep worship, and an unfailing Word. When you look at the headlines today, no wonder people say there is little reason for hope. What this generation needs are some illogical and irrational people who, like Abraham, will keep on believing. God always keeps His promises. The question is, will we keep on HOPING for those that have yet to find their HOPE? Somebody coming to Mile One this weekend needs that kind of HOPE. Maybe, just maybe, in the grand design of God, He has been preparing US as His keys to unlock the HOPE for this generation. He is that HOPE and I HOPE we’ll all be ready for that search and rescue assignment!
